Dear Saint Sebastian Family,
We are one week away from our Latino Heritage Celebration (8:00am- 2:00pm) & Monthly Family Mass (at 12:00pm) on September 15th and we are super excited to invite you and all your family and friends to attend. Please help us share this event and save the date!
Wishing you a very restful weekend,
Saint Sebastian Office
Attention!
As you may already know we are using a new system called Gradelink. Our teachers have been sending out emails using our new system. Since this is new for everyone, including for you, some parents have reported that the emails are going to spam or junk folder. We want to ask you to check for emails coming from smartsend@gradelink.com.
Please mark them as safe, so you can continue to receive notifications from your teachers and school.
Pledges for Jog-a-thon / Hop-a-thon
The Jog-a-thon / Hop-a-thon is our first sporting event of the year. It is held on Friday, October 4th. Children run (TK-8th Grades) or hop (Preschool) as many laps as they are able to in the playground. Students get sponsors who will pledge a donation towards their fundraising campaign. The purpose of this event is to fundraise as much as possible by running laps.
- On Monday September 9th we will be sending the Jog-a-thon / Hop-a-thon Sponsor Forms. We have 2 weeks to try to get as many sponsors as possible to donate. There are 2 ways to pledge:
Flat rate or Per Lap
NOTE: Most students run/hop between 20-30 laps. Therefore if you choose the Per Lap rate you must be mindful of the amount you pledge since that amount will be multiplied by the number of laps the student completes.
Pledge Examples:
Flat rate: Uncle Bob will pledge a flat amount of $50 no matter how many laps she completes. He will pay $50 total at the end of the challenge.
Per lap: Grandma Lucia is pledging $0.50 for each lap Elena completes. If Elena runs/hops 35 laps, we multiply $0.50 X 35, so Grandma Lucia will pay $17.50 total.
The pledge forms with the sponsors names and amounts have to be returned to school on Monday, September 30th.
We will also need volunteers to help us count the laps, record the number of laps and total the amount to be collected. A sign up will be posted once the date gets closer, but start saving the date. And, of course, parents are also invited to come cheer!
SPC is getting hands in action
On Wednesday, September 11th at 5:00 pm our second SPC Meeting of the year will be held. The Spartan Parent Council (SPC) will discuss final details for Latino Heritage, prepare for Jog-a-thon, and start planning our Fall Festival Trunk-or-Treat. We need your participation!
Everyone is invited to participate. Room parents are expected to attend the meeting.
Latino Heritage Celebration & School Family Mass
As part of the National Hispanic Heritage Month, we are having our Latino Heritage Celebration on September 15th from 8:00am – 2:00pm.
The celebration includes a food sale with traditional dishes to fundraise for the school which starts as early as 8:00 am. Come to have breakfast or lunch with us and get some food to go!
Our Folklorico students will perform at 11:00 am and at 11:30am we will have some guest student dancers from Clover Elementary from Santa Monica, building connections with our neighboring communities. We will also be selling duros con cueritos to fundraise to buy new folklorico shoes.
